Martina Berta arrived at Soldier Hollow with an XCO World Cup win and World Championship silver in her jersey pockets. She left Utah with two more victories—and with her name in the record books alongside the best in the world.

BERTA´S FIRST ELITE XCC WORLD CUP VICTORY

Saturday's Women’s Elite XCC stayed closely packed for most of its nine laps, making separation difficult and a sprint increasingly likely. But Berta bided her time and picked her moment: she attacked on the penultimate lap, created enough space to stay clear, and crossed the line six seconds ahead of second place Alessandra Keller.

It was Berta’s first Elite XCC World Cup victory and the first ever by an Italian rider in the format.

Less than 24 hours later, she proved her mettle once again in the XCO. This time Berta spent much of the race among a select group at the front before she and Gwendalyn Gibson pulled clear. The decision came on the final lap, when Berta again avoided a sprint by opening a gap that Gibson just couldn't close. Berta finished a full 13 seconds ahead of the motivated American, with World Champion Sina Frei rounding out the podium.

Winning either race would have made Soldier Hollow a successful weekend. Winning both put Berta in a much smaller group: only 10 other Elite women in the history of the sport have won the XCC and XCO at the same World Cup round.

Two races, two perfectly timed attacks, and nothing left to chance. Berta knew her strengths, chose her moments, and crossed the line first with enough time to celebrate. She did it all aboard her Origine Théorème FS with SR SUNTOUR AXON 34 and EDGE EVO suspension.

With the World Cup finale in Lake Placid still to come, Berta heads east with two more wins added to an already exceptional season.
